The Maier Racing strut tower brace (STB) was chosen because of it's rigid design and the method of attachment to the strut towers - sandwiched between the towers and the camber/caster plates (this also strengthens the tops of the towers).
The Maier Racing STB comes as a 3-point brace (also attaches to the firewall), but an aftermarket 3-point STB is not legal in the SCCA Solo2 Street Prepared Rules.
In order to make this STB legal, some modifications were done.

Original Configuration
This is what the STB looked like in it's original configuration mounted in the car. NOTE: A 3-point brace CAN be legal if it is left unbolted at the firewall, but a true 2-point brace was desired.
|
3-Point to 2-Point
The two firewall struts were cut off to make the STB a legal 2-point brace. Unfortunatley, this modification by itself would make the brace weaker at the tower mounts, so additional fabrication was necessary. |

Gussets Fabricated
Using the old firewall mount as extra material, strengthening gussest were cut and shaped to be welded on the underside of the brace's tower mounts.
|
Gussets Welded
Once the gussets were fabricated (two per side), they were welded into place. |

Finished Product
The top side of the brace was ground down and smoothed out (where the old firewall braces were attached), and the brace was then sanded, prepped, and repainted.
