TWEAKED AND ROLLED FENDERS

A few modifications were made to the car's front fenders and rear fender lips to fit the wider wheels and tires under the car without any clearance problems. These modifications should allow up to a 275/45R17 tire mounted on a 17" X 10" wheel with the correct offset/backspacing to fit without any clearance problems.

Front Fender Extensions

The front lower fiberglass fender extensions were trimmed down to allow the wider tire to clear when turned in. The supporting metal that is behind the trimmed away section of fiberglass is bent back out of the way.

Front Fender Realignment

The front fenders were unbolted at the bottom (near the door), and a new hole was drilled approximately one inch farther back towards the door to realign that part of the fender forward which tweaks the top of the fender lip out about a half an inch.

Half an inch worth of washers were placed in between each front fender and the body of the car with a new longer bolt to space each fender out a little further. This modification, along with the realignment, gives each fender an unusual gap near the front of each door, but is well worth the gained front tire clearance.

Front and Rear
Rolled Fender Lips

The front and rear fender lips were rolled as much as possible (not a pretty sight, but necessary for clearance) and the front plastic fender well liners were removed (1993 Cobra R update).
