Make-a-Wish Car Show 2002

Date: March 2-3, 2002
Venue: Civic Center - Amarillo, TX

The WTR-SCCA asked me to display my car in this year's annual Make-a-Wish Car Show, because they were having trouble finding cars for the club's designated 2-car exhibit space. They've had a designated exhibit space at the car show for many years as a way to gain exposure to the general public and attract new members and event participants (that's how I originally got interested!). This year they wanted some cars there that were a little more recognizable as street driven cars. In the past, they've always had dedicated race cars or open wheel formula cars, and I've always thought that when people walk by and see those types of cars being display they would have the impression that you'd have to have THAT type of car to race with the club, so I was happy to provide a car that was a common street driven/legal vehicle for the club's display. I obviously didn't win any trophies (probably didn't even get one vote ), because my car is definitely NOT a show car, but it got a lot of attention and people seemed to be impressed with my display of race trophies as they took time to read them all as they looked at the car (I didn't know if displaying the trophies would make me look like a total nerd, but I wanted people to know that the car has been fairly sucessful as a "race" car).
