Race Report 2001 - Round 1

Date: February 25, 2001
Venue: Reese Center - Lubbock, TX
Results: 1st in Class, 6th Overall (35 total)

My new wheels were still on backorder, so I had to borrow some 16"x8" wheels from a friend (thanks Aubrey!) and mounted last year's 265/45R16 Kumhos on them. I was worried about the width of the wheels being too narrow for the wide Kumhos, but at least I was able to get my racing fix!

I planned on running 9 runs (or... until my tires corded ). The car seemed to handle pretty good with the 8 inch width wheels, but still seemed a little squirrelly. After my third run, I noticed that I had a small spot showing cords on one of my front tires. I ran one more run, but could tell that the corded spot was getting worse and decided to retire the car for the day. My best run out of the first three was 3.514 seconds faster than any of the other 3 three cars running in ESP (all Mustangs), although they were all on street tires. So, I won my class and came in 6th overall (out of 35)... not bad for borrowed wheels and bald tires!
